DIRECTOR

As a Director, Valeria thrives on developing new works. She's directed new plays and musicals, and her passion lies in working hand in hand with the playwrights to help the script come to life on stage. She also takes pride in working on successful hits musicals with a new refreshing vision in the respect of the original presentation.

For Valeria, the most important thing is to honor the process of creating and to work as a team. Art is a form of communication, and to deliver the right message the director has to work with the cast and crew to bring them to have the same vision. It is an honest and intense process. We start with a deep analysis of the script and physical exercises, which can bring the ensemble together as a unit. The end result is a process where every member of the cast and crew has tools to bring the vision to life.

  • IN THE HEIGHTS

“It’s Broadway in Center Valley. Director Valeria Cossu pays attention to detail. When actors are in a main scene, other actors make busy on the side in the salon, bodega or fire escape. Cossu carefully modulates the story of Washington Heights, New York City, Latino-Americans dealing with the day- to-day, dreams sparkling like champagne in their eyes, hope harbored in their hearts.”

“Valeria is creative, passionate, and easy to work with. I come from a background of screenwriting, and as such, my play Until Death Do Us Part was slightly "cinematic." Valeria contributed ideas to help make the play more "theatrical," which ultimately improved the script. Because of Valeria's direction, the final result was a comedic drama that was both funny and poignant, and able to deeply move the audience. The play was chosen as one of six finalists in the NYC Venus Adonis Festival 2016.”

CHOREOGRAPHER

As a choreographer, Valeria brings vibrant movement and provides unique ways to tell a story. Her work has been seen in Spain, Portugal, Peru, Colombia and the USA. Directors seek to work with Valeria, because she brings a unique style of storytelling through her international experience and connection with multiple cultures and styles.

In addition Valeria is an expert body percussionist. Her experience and collaboration with excellences in the Body Percussion field gave Valeria the opportunity to improve her style and evolve it as a different international language to tell stories through rhythm. With it she's able to tap into the heartbeat of a scene, character, song, and heighten a moment causing the audience to hold its breath and hear a pin drop. Particularly in America, her choreography really strikes a chord and makes a piece original, because she uses movement that's really raw and different from what is commonly seen in theatre today.

  • MOMIA EN EL CÓSET: EVITA’S RETURN

“Perhaps the most spectacular part of this production is the musical numbers. Choreographer Valeria Cossu brilliantly blends the spirit of Argentina with the supernatural, taking audiences on a mesmerizing and fantastical odyssey.”
